Steam Up North International Convention
Come and enjoy rides behind steam and diesel locomotives visiting this convention from all over the world! 50 engines, 37 steamers, 13 diesels and gauge 1 tracks and engines… This many locomotives have never been seen before in Whangarei.

Summer Do - Art School
Welcome to the Quarry Arts Centre Summer Do ‘12.

2012 marks the 25th year of the Summer Do making it the longest running art school in New Zealand.

The annual “Summer Do” is held in the beautiful and inspirational environment at the Quarry Arts Centre located minutes from Whangarei. The Quarry is the perfect place to immerse yourself in 7 day or 3 day art courses designed to be stimulating, inclusive, intensive and fun. We invite you to join us, to gain and share experiences and knowledge in the hands of an experienced renowned tutor in this supportive, social and encouraging environment. The “Do” also includes informal talks by participating tutors and fun evening events.

7 days courses:
·Surface design, glaze and clays with Brian Gartside
·Mixed Media Sculpture with Charlotte Fisher
·Recycle an old furniture into a work of art –tutor tbc
·Painting with Phillipa Blair [NB: this workshop it tentatively full, you are welcome to put your name on the waitlist and we will be in touch if a place opens up.]

3 day courses:
·Painting with Jill Perrott (Wed 11-Fri 14)
·Experimental Printmaking with Joan Travaglia (Sat7 –Mon 9th)
·Wood fire pizza oven and intro into earthbuilding with Henery Mackeson (Wed 11-Fri 14)
·Darjit Garden Sculpture with Kobi Beck - (Sat7 –Mon 9th)
·Ukulele or drumming –tutor tbc

Booking:
Get in touch and register your interest in any of the Summer Do courses and we will send you more information about the course content and materials lists.

Then once you are sure you want to do the course you will be asked to secure your booking with a deposit and then in due course full payment.

We will keep in touch with you all along the way.

Fees:
Course fees of $490 for full week, $260 for half week cover the tutoring. Some materials are paid for separately, according to individual use, please contact us for further details.

A deposit of $100.00 is required at time of booking to confirm your placing, the balance payable no later than 16th December 2011.

Times & dates:
Saturday 7th - Saturday 14th January 2012
Workshops start at 9am daily and go till approximately 4.30pm. You will find that courses set their own times once the get going. Lunch breaks are around 12 each day again depending on the rhythm of the class. Some of the more physical workshops will have slightly shorter hours or more breaks.

The official opening is at 9am, Saturday 7th January 2012. The Summer Do ends at lunchtime Saturday 14th January 2010.
